In 2014 I came back to Netherlands, went crazy, anxiety, depression, didn't know what to do with my life, decided to do 12 Startups in 12 Months because my dad always said you should just go do something when you're depressed instead of just sit around, and inspired by Jennifer Dewalt's 180 websites in 180 days. That was just a blog post but made me famous overnight and featured in lots of press for the first time. One of those startups, Nomad List, was very successful and apart from making money it, it inspired millions of people to go work remotely and travel as a digital nomad and I'm very proud of that. In 2015, a job board spin off from Nomad List called Nomad Jobs ended up becoming Remote OK, now the #1 job board for remote jobs in the world. I tried a lot of different projects since then, most not making money at all but fun like Hoodmaps. In 2022, since the AI wave started I've tried to build lots of startups around AI. One successful one was Interior AI, the first interior designer that uses generative AI to restyle your interior. Another one being Avatar AI, which was the first AI avatars app that started the big hype wave of them. In 2023, I pivoted that into Photo AI, which also turned successful. During all this, I've continued nomading around the world, living in 40+ countries, and 150+ cities from Korea to Brazil. My belief is we live in the most exciting time in history for humanity, and we live in a global world, and I want to spend my life experiencing that to the fullest. I think countries and governments generally just keep people apart when the world is by and for everyone. And anyone who is respectful to a place should be able to live there and be able to move around freely around the world. All my websites/apps/startups/projects are built by just me with vanilla HTML, JS with jQuery, PHP and SQLite. I'm very fast with my own little stack. I don't collaborate with other people and prefer shipping fast by myself. For Photo AI, I've hired an AI dev for awhile to help me set up AI models on GPU servers but everything else is by me. Bios like these are cheesy as fuck of course, but who else is going to tell your story if you don't do it right?
